Are you you?
An Experiment in Self-Perception:
Imagine yourself in absolute darkness, a space so profound that your wide-open eyes perceive nothing. In this void, release all physical anchors – do not touch anything, not even yourself. Just be.Now, with your eyes closed, gently direct your focus upwards, as if gazing intently at your own forehead. Hold this gaze.
As you remain in this state, observe. You may notice a gradual dissociation from your physical form. The "you" you've always known, the one tied to a body, begins to diminish. Stay with it. The flame of self-identification, fueled by physical sensation, starts to flicker. Persist a little longer.Eventually, that flame may extinguish entirely. At this point, the concept of a physical "you" or any physical object as "yours" fades. You might even forget the very outline of your own form.
Beyond Materiality:
Now, from this profound stillness, ask yourself: Who are you? Your answer, if truly from this space, will not contain a single material description.Next, inquire: Where are you? If you've fully embraced the experiment, this answer too will transcend any physical location or dimension.
The Return to Sensation:
Slowly, carefully, reverse each step. The moment light re-enters your perception, you begin to re-identify with your physical body. As you touch yourself and the objects around you, your senses re-engage. You start to define what you see, touch, smell, hear, and taste as "yours," extending these sensations to create your perceived world.
The Ultimate Question:
This leads to a profound inquiry: The world simply is – formless, tasteless, smell-less, and sound-less, until filtered through your senses. So, did you create the world, is the world contained within you, or are you, in essence, the world itself? -
